The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)

NAMI (the National Alliance on Mental Illness) is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to improving the lives of persons living with serious mental illness and their families. Founded in 1979, NAMI has become the nation’s voice on mental illness, a national organization including NAMI organizations in every state and in over 1100 local communities across the country who join together to meet the NAMI mission through advocacy, research, support, and education.

National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH)

NIMH is the lead Federal agency for research on mental and behavioral disorders. It offers news, resources, and research summaries on mental health and also provides multiple links to other mental health resources.

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)

The federal agency created to focus attention, programs, and funding on improving the lives of people with or at risk for mental and substance abuse disorders. This site offers a wide array of mental health resources, links, studies, and research gathered by the program and also boasts a large library of free PDF files and other materials.

A Family Guide to Keeping Youth Mentally Healthy and Drug Free (SAMHSA)

Developed by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, is meant to help parents and other caring adults promote mental health and prevent the use of alcohol, tobacco and illegal drugs among children and adolescents. It provides concise, practical guidance for parents and covers topics including childhood depression, proper discipline and peer pressure, and contains links to other resources.
